Unique sculptures of you and/or your dog or other animal may be commissioned. An example of a commission is shown at the end of this page.

  THE COMMISSION PROCESS

Following discussion about your requirements, model figures are sculpted using resin filler and they are then assembled. At this stage the sculpture is in its natural beige colour and will be shown to you for your initial approval. The sculpture is then painted to be almost indistinguishable from the finished bronze. At this point your approval will again be sought before we move onto the next stage, which is known as 'the lost wax investment casting process'.

THE LOST WAX INVESTMENT CASTING PROCESS

Multi-part rubber moulds are taken from sculpted models, capturing all the fine detail before wax models are cast from them. Various wax rods (sprues) are attached to the wax models to allow for the bronze to be poured in and to let air escape. Next, they are coated with several layers of a ceramic compound (the investment) to make a ceramic mould. The waxes are burnt out (lost wax) by heating in a kiln, leaving a cavity.

Molten Bronze is then poured into the ceramic mould. When cool, the mould is broken off, and the sprues are cut off. The bronzes are cleaned up and detail is put back at the cuts. The bronzes are then welded together and sand blasted to give a fine even matt finish.

Finally a patina is added and a protective wax coat applied.

The whole process from making the wax model onwards has to be repeated for every bronze sculpture made.
